PRIORITIES INLIFE AND OLD AGE

PRIORITIES INLIFE AND OLD AGE

A Lot has been spoken and written on priorities in one’s life. People have varied opinions on this subject. Some say their family is their first priority, for some others their job, for a few enjoyment in life and for certain others their health. As we become old our priorities may change. Initially our priorities may be our education then our job later our family and so on. But when you cross the age of 65 priorities for most of us will be our health. The reason is that your health starts deteriorating and minor ailments starts troubling you and then only you have no other option but to give priority to your health.

But giving priority to our health at this stage will not do any good because you are too late and this realization will not serve any purpose. For a human being his first priority ever since he is born should be his health. All other needs come after that. Without health you cannot achieve other priorities. When we refer ‘Health” it doesn’t mean our physical health alone. The word “Health” has manifold parameters. Physical health, mental health, healthy relationships, healthy attitude, healthy habits healthy life style and so on. People generally confine the term health to their physical health only and maintain the same through periodical medical checkups. Of course that is good and needed. But a healthy body with an unhealthy mind is of no use. Along with a healthy body we should have a healthy mind also. This can be achieved through relentless practice and self-confidence. Once we have a healthy body and healthy mind all other healthy attributes will follow.

But it is very sad to note that most of the older generation ignored this truth and started giving priority to their health late. As a result they start losing hope when their health deteriorate and fall sick. One thing we should realize. They might have achieved many things in life for which they gave more priority in life than their health. But later on becoming old and sick they start realizing their folly and the revelation that all the achievements they had at the cost of their health is of no avail to them. As long as you are healthy you can be happy. Once your health is lost you cannot expect the desired reaction from those around you which in turn lead you to agony and depression. Once health is lost you get doomed.                 So let us strive to achieve this goal and convince our coming generation the importance of health in life.
